Professor Gumbligger was relieved that Hikari had asked him a question. When he realised it was bout Magizoology, he straightened up slightly in his chair and a huge smile beamed across his face. "Well Hikari, I have always been very fond of creatures, and when I was young I dreamed that one day I would do something working with them. When I was really young actually, I wanted to be an Auror like you, but that's a different story!" He shuffled and made himself more comfortable, and took a sip from his glass of water. "Anyway, as time went on my love for them grew more and more. After completing my degree in Magizoology, I actually aspired to opening my own pet store and doing that for a living. But a position became vacant at the Australian Institute of Magical Education and I seized the opportunity and took the job." He finished on that and took another sip, which happened to be the last one, of his water.

Hikari took a few more sips of her own drink before there were finally no more sips to be taken. She placed the empty cup down on the table and gave professor Gumbligger a glance. His life sounded so sure, like he knew exactly what to do with himself. But the part about wanting to become an auror had interested her a bit.
"Why did you want to become an auror," she asked. It sounded intriguing how a person could want to be an auror to a magizoologist. She reached into her pocket for the money to at least pay for her part of the little lunch they had. She took out a few coins, enough to pay for the meal and a small tip.

Professor Gumbligger thought about why he had wanted to be an Auror. "Well, I guess it was just because I was young, the same way most young people want to do something heroic, I wanted to be an Auror and protect the world from evil. It's still a nice idea, but I fell in love with magical creatures and here I am!"
He watched as Hikari pulled out some change and placed it on the table. "Goodness, don't be silly! It's on me." He pushed the coins back towards her and began fumbling around for some coins of his own.

Hikari tilted her head to the professor. It seemed that everyone wanted to pay for her meals for her. She shrugged and put the coins back in her pocket. "If you insist," she said idly. She thought about what he had said about wanting to be an auror. She had never thought like that. Being an auror would mean risking your life, she knew that from the moment she thought about being one. However, she also felt something, like a need to prove something.
"It must have been a nice idea," she said, "to want to grow up to be a hero. I had never really had such thoughts as those to tell the truth."

As a waiter walked past, Professor Gumbligger politely asked if he could get him the bill. He then fired another question at Hikari. "So tell me, what do you think about being an auror? Tell me your opinions of it." His stomach felt bloated like he had ate to much.

Hikari thought on the subject more. Her thoughts flew from one reason to another, one opinion to the next, though they had all been different opinions she had heard somewhere before so they were not her own. Running her fingers through her hair she though more until finally having something to say.
"There has always been a desire for something within me," she started, "I'm not exactly sure what, but I've alway thought that perhaps this way I could get a chance to maybe live. Maybe its my way of searching for acceptance. Whatever it is, I feel the need to do this.."

Professor Gumbligger just nodded his head at Hikari's reply. He thanked the waiter when he returned with his change, which he left on the table as a tip. He decided he should probably get going, since he had planned on doing a lot of preparations for the start of the term today, and it was getting on already.
"Well, Hikari, it has been a pleasure to meet you, but I must be getting going now, I have a lot to get done." He stood up. "Thanks for having lunch with me, it was nice. I'll see you around?"

Hikari nodded her thanks to the waiter when he came back with professor Gumbligger's change. Another nod was given to the professor himself as thanks for the food. "It's been a pleasure to talk with you too," she said, "your welcome and thank you for paying for my lunch. I hope to see you around."

Professor Gumbligger gave one last goodbye to Hikari before nodding and turning around and heading out the door. What a lovely girl, she will be a great auror one day.
