Hearing her name being called, Ebony took a deep breath and walked into the examination hall. Sitting at the assigned table she waited for the examination officer to start the timer.
After only a couple of minutes the exam began.
Looking at the requirements Ebony hoped that she would be able to express how passionate she was about divination and ancient runes. With sweaty palms she looked at the first question; In your own words explain why would are interested in studying your selected field. Picking up her quill Ebony began to write.
I am interested in studying ancient runes because I am fascinated by the way that they can be used as not only a form of code but also in my second field of study, divination. As a child I loved to solve puzzles, so my father decided that he would create a code using runes as not only a way to learn letters but to be able to understand complex codes. Runes also are an understated form of magic, where a skilled master or mistress of ancient runes can use them to create a source of protection when cast. As I went through schooling I began researching runes in my spare time and became fascinated in the way that runes could be used. In short, I am interested in studying ancient runes to be able to fully understand their complex nature and be able to use them in creating warding systems as well as use them in partnership with the principles of divination.
Satisfied with her answer Ebony continued on to the next question and smiled; provide a short example of your current knowledge on your chosen subject.
Ancient Runes are believed to have been present over 1,700 years ago and have been translated into letters of the alphabet. The Elder Futhark runes are the most widely known runes consisting of twenty-four runes that are divided into three categories or aett. In runic divination the runes are cast using various methods depending on the type of reading you are doing (often they are simply painted onto a rock surface, but for a more effective reading the runes should be engraved through a runic ritual performed by someone skilled in divination).
Divination comes in varying forms including astronomy, and tasseomancy. It is my firm belief that while there are signs around us everyday a witch or wizard must have some sort of seer abilities before they can truly interpret them correctly.
Looking to the last question Ebony felt relief wash over her; Provide us a brief description of yourself.
My name is Ebony Mason and I was born in Cambridge. I was raised by my father who taught me from a young age about my family history and the world of divination. My first predictions came through nightmares when I was a child. I began runic divination after my father used them to teach me how to write codes and cast runes for not only protective circles but to prepare me for school. I am an avid reader and tend to spend most of my time in a library. I am hoping to get a double masters degree in Ancient Runes and Divination to help develop a more stable form of rune casting and show people that divination isn’t simply guesswork.
Ebony put down her quill and turned in her paper, knowing that whatever happened next was out of her hands.
