The international Wizard University was founded in 1284 by Hargard Butrey, the university's first headmaster. It was opened in an attempt to further educate the wizarding population. When it first opened its doors it had only one building with a dormitory and a couple of lecture theatres. The Ministry of Magic did not approve of the university, labelling it a "failure" and "disgrace to the Wizarding Community". However Butrey's passion for education led him to keep the university running.
In 1361 Headmaster Butrey was the victim of a terrible murder. he was murdered onsite in his office at the university on the 18th May just after midnight. Police never identified the murderer, however suspicions and rumours point the finger at the Minister of Magic himself. The school was forced to close its doors and the 64 students forced to go home.
Two years later, in 1363, Ronald Burton reopened the university and took on the role of Headmaster. It took a while to encourage students to return, however within a few years the university was back to normal.
In 1430 the university got its big break. A senior student studying Defence against the Dark Arts, Mr Alberta Toothill, won the All-England wizard Duelling Competition, beating the favourite, samson Wiblin. This was seen as a success for the university and people began to gain interest in what was now being considered a fine educational institution. the Ministry of Magic began funding the university and students finishing year seven were encouraged to further their studies at the university.
The university had a major expansion in 1864, with the building of several new buildings, dormitories, lecture theatres, bars and libraries on the site. More and more people were becoming interested in studying at the university and they soon found themselves unable to let everyone in. In 1893 tertiary entrance examinations were set up for those wishing to further their studies. Criteria was set for a benchmark pass grade to be accepted to study a certain course.
The current Headmaster, Professor vernon Dublais, started at the school in 1931. With the school growing rapidly in size every academic year, current Headmistress Katra Silvias was appointed to help just two years later in 1933.
Now, in the year 2006, the school boasts state of the art facilities and world renowner education programs. The school educates thousands of young witches and wizards every year, preparing them to be an assett to our world for many years to come.
